When I was a lively sociable teenager, I loved conversations and was a natural – however I was so afraid and embarrassed when I got stuck on words and topics that I did not know – and fell into that danger zone of dishonesty saying “of course I know” when I didn’t.
What was I afraid of - my naivety – my ignorance – my lack of confidence growing up – whatever it was my break through came much later in my late 30s, as I entered the ‘post little babies’ zone, I went back to college, I started a business as an image consultant , behavioral patterns, communication and my own authentic confidence.
I found myself teaching others that which I would have loved to have been taught as a youngster!
I found myself reflecting on the advances we have in our Technology, AI, ChatGPT and Metaverse alternative spaces…
YET THE ART OF CONVERSATION – with personal face to face interaction, speaking words, filtering attitudes, igniting energy, tuning in, and understanding ourselves and each other is still not natural skills set encouraged and expanded in schools.
Was it because I was a girl that I had many unconscious and conscious pressure to not be a rebel!
My parents were super caring and lovely, no traumas here. I still took my own choices into my teens as we all do. They probably wanted me to be traditional, go to university, get a job, find a husband, have kids - I did all that but then later divorced. I didn't want to upset them, I was afraid to tell them - yet I did and the upside was they honored every choice I made even if against their norms.
I am that reluctant rebel who believe in “let’s talk this out” Be honest and find ways not be angry. This is stock in trade #MagicalConversations
What are people afraid of that turns conversations from FAVOUR to FEAR and hate and untruths?
I have evolved my own #heartcenteredleadership practices, principles, and philosophy of a values-based heart centered life. It’s taken time, many bumps in the road…even today, life is not an easy climb living in USA, far from family; concerns that WW3 might just break out any day!
Through 7 decades of exponential change, I don’t have those old fears. I see conflict as a place of FAVOUR and FEAR – and recognize the opportunities for positive and negative to exist.
I create #WisdomCircles across the world, and wise women and men come to share in a space of no-judgement with a desire to eliminate toxic behavior that damages not merely the physical but the deeply emotional and mental stability and endurance we need to survive today.
Do I falter on occasions when facing conflicts, anger, and rejection – of course!
I recalibrate quickly and with the support of wise family, friends and colleagues, I take the next breath and rise.
